Description
This course will focus on incidents of riots and ruckus in Onondaga County’s history from 1794 to 1993. Topics include the first county emergency response plan in 1794, the 1838 Patriot Rebellion, 1840 execution of Zacharia Freeman, 1844 Coffee House riot, 1851 Jerry Rescue incident, 1860 Social Evil riot, 1863 St. Patrick’s Day parade ruckus, 1893 James Harvey incident, 1936 Remington Rand strike, 1960 Carrier and G.E. strikes, 1975 Jamesville Penitentiary and Public Safety Jail riots, and the 1978 and 1993 Onondaga Nation uprisings.
