Description
This course will focus on the Christmas celebration of the 17th Century French Jesuit mission Ste. Marie among the Iroquois at Onondaga Lake. Christmas traditions of the period, and how the Christmas celebration was practiced at the mission site and the Native American villages will be presented. Additional topics will include the Nativity story, the Christmas masses, the yule log, Reveillon and gift giving, the creche, the noels, the Christmas tree, and the 1642 Huron Carol.
