Description

This 2016 biographical drama focuses on a true-life inter-racial romance and its historical impact on the modern world. African Seretse Khama, heir to the throne of the British protectorate Bechuanaland (present-day Botswana), and white Englishwoman Ruth Williams met in London shortly after WWII, fell in love and married in 1948 despite strong family and political hostility to their union. Their personal story of courage and determination in confronting racism and post-war colonialism helped change a country, a continent and a global empire, paving the way for democracy in Africa.
