Description
We regularly use the word “genocide” to describe various mass atrocities. Yet the word did not exist until 1944. This program will tell the story of Raphael Lemkin’s creation of a word that he hoped would provide both law and language to help prevent future atrocities and has come to have far-reaching impact on how we think about crimes against humanity, tolerance, justice, and responsibility to others.
