Description
Suffragist Matilda Joslyn Gage charged priests with sexually abusing children and exposed sex trafficking in the U.S.—in 1893! Offering her Fayetteville home as a station on the Underground Railroad, she also supported Indigenous treaty rights and native nation sovereignty, while calling for equal pay and a woman’s right to control her own body. In 1999 Dr. Wagner moved into Gage’s home, formed the Gage Foundation, and raised a million dollars to purchase and restore the house. It opened as a Center for Social Justice Dialogue in 2010, with six rooms showcasing her activist causes. Learn more about the remarkable Matilda, the Foundation’s history and the Gage Center’s upcoming activities.
