Description

What is jazz? What makes it different from other kinds of music? The Syracuse Orchestra notes the differences and highlights the similarities with essential music concepts like rhythm, melody, and harmony. The instructor, Maurice Cohn, is one of the candidates vying to be the next Music Director of The Syracuse Orchestra. The interactive session will include music from and discussion of Kurt Weill, James P. Johnson, George Gershwin and Duke Ellington – who all blurred the boundaries of jazz, Broadway, and classical music. It’s the perfect prelude to “Inspired by Jazz”, which Cohn conducts on January 10 & 11.
