Description
Through lecture and displayed reproduction uniform items, this course will focus on law enforcement history related to the Erie Canal and how the canal impacted the development of crime and law enforcement in New York State. Topics include the character of policing in the era, urban red light districts, the legacy of the orphaned canal boys, the Sabbatarian movement, various canal code laws, and the canal’s role in the underground railroad.
