Description

The tunes and standards of the ’50s, 60s and 70s were for many of us the music of our lives. The change from ballads, big bands and general pop music was jarring for some; for others–ecstatic. The blues influence on what was to be called rock and roll was significant. The Documentaries shown will be about musicians and bands from that era, to include Hail! Hail! Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tom Down & the Language of Music, Muscle Shoals, Song of the South, The Big Beat: Fats Domino and the Birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Crossfire Hurricane, Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock ‘n’ Roll and Janis. Discussion will follow each film. Note: class will start one week later (2/10) and extend one week (3/31).
