As requested after last summer’s “Breaking the Glass Ceiling” course, here is another look at “Mighty Women ”(Adult Reading List.) These intrepid women include a Canadian immigrant who became the first lady of Iceland and reveals the closing gender gap in her adopted country; an adventurous innovator who followed her mother’s wish to save numerous animals; the “Mecca for the Mismated” in Sioux Falls, S. Dakota at the turn of the last century; and a contemporary private eye who exposed a landmark sexual assault investigation.
With informal lectures and class discussions, we will discuss the following books: Secrets of the Sprakkar: Iceland’s Extraordinary Women and How They Are Changing the World by Eliza Reid; Funny Farm: My Unexpected Life With 600 Rescue Animals by Laurie Zaleski; The Divorce Colony: How Women Revolutionized Marriage and Found Freedom on the American Frontier by April White; and Tell Me Everything: The Story of a Private Investigation by Erika Krouse.
