This course recounts the story of the 17th century French Jesuit Mission Ste Marie among the Iroquois at Onondaga Lake. The presentation focuses on the historical significance of the site, and the episodes that led to the establishment and abandonment of the mission. It also touches upon the cultural, social, economic, political, and spiritual interface between the native Americans and the European nations that built the mission.
