One ton of gold arrived in Alaska in 1897 thus beginning the mass hysteria to get rich. People came from all over the world and many were unprepared for the unimaginable hardships, including the travel, starvation and the weather. Some came for gold or for adventure, and others came to set up shops catering to the stampeders. This lecture will highlight this event in American history–true stories of those who pursued a dream of riches and glory, challenged by overwhelming obstacles.
