Description

Join us at this historic local site to learn the inspiring stories of two exceptional women, born over a century apart but linked by their work to advance women and society. Matilda Joslyn Gage (1826-1898) was a major suffragist, advocate for women’s rights, abolitionist, ally of the native Haudenosaunee, and ardent proponent of the separation of church and state, plus a role model for L. Frank Baum’s Oz books. But she was lost to history until rediscovered by Sally Roesch Wagner (1942-2025), an academic with her own parallel journey toward social justice activism. Dr. Wagner turned Matilda’s old house into an unusual museum with an ongoing mission. We will share general information and intriguing accounts of both women’s lives and how they intersected, then lead a guided tour of the center. You may explore the exhibits further until 4 pm. Note: Fee includes museum admission; free parking is available on the street or at nearby United Church of Fayetteville, 310 East Genesee St.
